Quality Matters (QM) provides on-site, online, and Collaborate-based professional development opportunities to a broad audience that includes, but is not limited to, instructional designers, faculty, administrators, and adjunct instructors. No matter what your role is, you will discover that QM has the tools needed to ensure your online courses are of the highest standards.

What’s Changed?

Please note the following changes to several of our professional development workshops/courses:

  1. The TTT/Online is now called the Online Facilitator Certification (OFC)
  2. The TTT/F2F is now called Face to Face Facilitator Certification (FFC)
  3. Applying the QM Rubric (APPQMR) and the Peer Reviewer Course (PRC) are no longer bundled.  You must register for each course separately.

If you want to learn more about the QM Program, are new to the online learning environment, or want to improve your online courses, consider the following opportunities that are based on the QM Program Rubric:

Overview

For those new to Quality Matters, the Overview provides an overview of the underlying principles of the Quality Matters approach, a description of the QM Rubric and the process for reviewing courses, and examples of how institutions, consortia and statewide groups are implementing Quality Matters. The Overview is offered on-site or via Collaborate.

Applying the QM Rubric (APPQMR)

Applying the QM Rubric, QM’s flagship training, provides an in-depth exploration of the QM Rubric and its use in evaluating online courses and is offered online (2 weeks), and on-site (6 hour workshop).

Peer Reviewer Course (PRC)

The Peer Reviewer Course specifically addresses the roles and responsibilities of a Peer Reviewer and is offered online (2 weeks).

Build Your Online Course (BYOC)

Build Your Online Course includes an overview of the QM Rubric and provides a framework to design an online course plan and is offered online (2 weeks), on-site  (4 hour workshop), or via Collaborate. Participants explore eight key standards of the QM Rubric, focusing on learning objectives and overall course alignment.

Build Your Blended Course (BYBC)

Build Your Blended Course allows participants to explore the QM Rubric and will help provide a framework to build a blended course and is offered online (2 weeks), on-site (4 hour workshop), or via Collaborate. Participants will use the QM Rubric to review key blended elements and create a course development plan.

Improve Your Online Course (IYOC)

Improve Your Online Course explores the QM Rubric and provides a framework to improve the quality of online courses and is offered online (2 weeks), on-site (4 hour workshop), or via Collaborate. Participants use the QM Rubric to review their online course and develop a course improvement plan.

Design That Welcomes Your Students (ST1)

Design That Welcomes Your Students focuses on providing online and blended course designers and instructors with an opportunity to explore design features that promote a framework for good learning and is offered online (2 weeks), on-site      (4 workshop), or via Collaborate.

Create Measurable Learning Objectives (ST2)

Create Measurable Learning Objectives reviews educational theories and best practices for constructing course- and module-level objectives and is offered online (2 weeks), on-site (4 workshop), or via Collaborate. Participants will apply these concepts to developing and/or reviewing their own course objectives and will learn how objectives are aligned with course components.

Investigate Learning Objectives and Assessments (ST2/3)

Investigate Learning Objectives and Assessments reviews course- and module-level learning objectives while using alignment to ensure that assessments are varied and supportive of the learning objectives. Participants will apply these concepts to developing and/or reviewing their own course objectives and assessments.

Link Instructional Materials and Learner Engagement (ST4/5)

Link Instructional Materials and Learner Engagement reviews effective learning objectives and, through the concept of alignment, links instructional materials and learner engagement and is offered online (2 weeks), on-site (4 hour workshop), or via Collaborate. Participants will apply these concepts in developing and/or reviewing their own instructional materials as they relate to supporting learner engagement.

Choose and Use Media Effectively (ST6)

Choose and Use Media Effectively introduces participants to a variety of media-based tools that can be used in online and hybrid courses and is offered online (2 weeks), on-site (4 hour workshop), or via Collaborate. The training pays special attention to aligning the tools with course goals and objectives. 

Addressing Accessibility (ST8)

Addressing Accessibility reviews the history of ADA legislation and provides a broad overview about the present ADA requirements and is offered online (two weeks), on-site (four-hour workshop), or via Collaborate. Practical tips are provided in terms of the “low hanging fruit” – what you can do to make your courses more ADA-friendly. 

Master Reviewer Certification (MRC)

Master Reviewer Certification is advanced training for experienced QM peer reviewers. It provides more detailed training on the interpretation of standards and other topics relevant to course reviews. Pre-requisites include Peer Reviewer Certification and having served on two QM-managed course review teams. 2 weeks

Face to Face Facilitator Certification (FFC) (formerly TTT/F2F)

Face to Face Facilitator Certification extends participants’ understanding of the QM Rubric so that they are able to facilitate on-site Applying the QM Rubric (APPQMR) workshops in their institutions and is offered online. 3 weeks.

Online Facilitator Certification (OFC) (formerly TTT/Online)

Online Facilitator Certification extends participants' understanding of the QM Rubric to a level of expertise that will allow them to facilitate an online version of the Applying the QM Rubric (APPQMR) training in their institution. 4 weeks
