I am trying to find information on the process for conducting a QM review of courses. I have need of creating information for review by a team that I work with around the costs of a QM review if it is done by QM and the process. I have spoken to someone about doing a review with a Master Reviewer but not done by QM and I need some information for comparisons. Where would I go or who would I talk to to get this kind of information? Thanks in advance.
Deb
Deb,
I think you will find what you are looking for in the IR Manual - in the Course Review section of that document. The IR manual is on the IR website main page. The fee for a QM managed course review is $900 for subscribers. Subscribers can use an internal/informal process to review courses, but those won't be recognized by QM. (Non-subscribers can get a QM managed course review for $1200 but are not entitled to the use of the rubric in any informal process). If you have specific questions that the IR manual doesn't address, you can contact Melissa Poole, QM Course Review Manager.
Thanks, I will check out the manual you refer to. I seem to remember seeing or being told that as part of a state-wide membership to QM we can do a review w/o using QM but reviewers in our state. But, we can still get the QM seal if an in-state Master Reviewer conducts the review with my work on the front end. Am I confused or am I uninformed?
Also, we have a course that is getting ready to need its 5-year re-cert. I came across this statement on the website & wondered what it meant?
"Registration of official, Subscriber-Managed course reviews charged after subscription benefit limit is reached $25 per course." Does this apply to the in-state registraion fee of $75 per reveiwed course for the seal? Sorry I have so many questions. 8-)
Deb
Deb,
I think you are referring to a Subscriber-Managed course review. This is considered an official review, eligible for QM recognition. Schools on a Full Subscription or schools that subscribe as part of a Statewide Subscription may conduct these types of reviews. In a Subscriber-Managed review, it is required that the formal QM process (meeting all the critieria for review team composition) is met. You can read more about this process in the IR Manual as well, though you should note that since we moved to the new Course Review Management System, we don't require any paperwork to be submitted after the review. We will be updating the IR Manual to reflect this. There is no fee paid to QM for a Subscriber-Managed course review.
Another change we have made with our new systems is that we are not charging a fee to register recognized courses at any number of reviews. Registration is now unlimited for Subscriber-Managed reviews. We will find and remove the language you found to this effect on our website.
The process for recertification of currently recognized courses approaching the 5-year mark is considered to be an expedited review. A description of the policy can be found in the IR manual. This is done using a single Master Reviewer and can be a QM-Managed or Subscriber-Managed review. Again, to conduct a Subscriber-Managed review of any type, an institution has to meet the criteria described above.
Thanks for your questions!

Hi Deb -
I would like to put you in touch with our Course Reveiw Manager, Melissa Poole, to answer this question. She will be happy to go though the review process with you. Melissa may be reached at mpoole@qualitymatters.org. You may also want to view our webinar located in the IR Group of this website. We had one this fall, discussing the Role of the IR in Subscriber Managed Reviews which may be helpful to you.
Thank you and Happy Holidays!!
I'm Carolyn Person and am the IR from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA. We are working to develop courses, have them reviewed, and hopefully many of them will be QM Recognized. I'm late in studying the IR modules but plan to catch up soon!

HI Christy,
The schedule for the webinars can be found attached at the bottom of the QM IR Website page. We encourage everyone to register through the regular training registration system - not only can you see the dates this way but your individual record will also show that you have taken the training.

Good Afternoon-
I was on the IR training session with some of you yesterday! My name is Barb Altman and I am the new Online Teaching Coordinator for the Business Division at Texas A&M University/Central Texas. We are a newly independent institution so just got authorized recently to do online classes, so playing catch up. I was hired to mentor faculty to teach online, design fully online programs, and promote a quality program. I am doing all that plus teaching 2 management classes fully online! I was an early adoptor at my previous institution, University of North Texas, so been teaching hybrid or online for 10 years. This summer I became a Certified Peer Reviewer for QM, and we just finished the paperwork for TAMUCT to be a subscriber.
I am struggling with how to start QM at my new institution, and would value anyone sharing their 3 year Implementation Plan, if you have one!!
Barb (altman@ct.tamus.edu)
Hello Barb -
I am sorry for the delay on this response. We are currently asking our subscribers with Implementation Plans if we may display these on our website. We have received a positive response thus far and will be adding this feature in early 2011 probably to our Institution Representative Site.
Thanks,
Michelle

HI Jeanne,
I noticed you will be with us on Monday for the 1st in the series of webinars for IRs. We have 54 gentle people signed up so far, so I suspect we will need to structure additional opportunities for real-time Q & A outside the IR training series. Your feedback is appreciated!
Hi, I'm Tammy Macek, IR for Lorain County Community College in Elyria, OH and I just earned the QM Peer Review Certification. I work in Distance Learning, and I teach as am an adjunct faculty member for a blended course, Educational Technology.
We are starting to implement QM at our institution, so I am new and look forward to understanding my role as an IR. I will participate in the training next Monday. Also, our Ohio QM Consortium is having a meeting next Wednesday, so this is good timing.
I look forward to working with all of you.

Great Tammy. I sent you the link today. We welcome any feedback at the end of these sessions!!
Have great evening!
Hello, everyone!
I am the e-Learning Assoc. Dean at North Seattle Community College. My degree is in geology and I also teach earth science courses online. In Winter Quarter, I will be teaching a 5-credit online dinosaurs course.
I have completed the APPQMR training, Peer Certification training and Train-the-Trainer training. I would now like to complete the IR training. I haven't found where to register and/or access this IR training.
Any help would be appreciated! My email is tbraziun@sccd.ctc.edu.
Thank you!
Tom Braziunas
HI Tom,
Thanks for your question. Because we have had so many changes to the tools and processes used by IRs, we had to take the IR training offline until we could update it. We have decided to wait on finalizing the online version of the training until the final tool (the Course Review Management System - i.e. the current online rubric tool) is launched in November.
Instead, we are going to offer the IR training this fall as a series (8) of 1-hour live webinars. These will be recorded for anyone who can't make the live session. These will start on October 4th and run once a week from now through November. We are finalizing the times now, but by the end of the week you should be able to register for these through our regular training registration system. As with the online IR training, these will be available at no cost to our IRs.
